Ramsej, also written as Ramshej Fort, is a small historical fort in Maharashtra on the road between Nashik and Peth. Ramshej Fort, which stands 3273 feet above sea level, attracts many trekkers for monsoon trekking in Maharashtra and often appears in places to visit in Nashik.
Ramshej means "Lord Ram's bedstead" in English. People think that Lord Rama lived here for a while while they were in exile, which is how the Fort got its name. Tourists can take a bus to Aashewadi Village, right at the base of the Fort. From Aashewadi on the south side, you can get to the Fort. It takes an hour to get to the top of the Fort.
Along the way, a small temple to Lord Ram is inside a vast cave. Followers take good care of the cave, making it a nice place to stay. On the south side of this cave, there is a tank with drinkable water. There was a big plateau on the left and a cave with steps leading to the main Fort on the right. The big doorway was still there.

Aurangzeb's army attacked the Fort, and his leaders warned the Maratha kingdom that they would take it in hours. However, Shivaji Maharaja's son Sambhaji and his army fought back for almost 6 years. Ultimately, the Marathas gave up Ramshej Fort and 16 other strongholds to the British in 1818 CE.
