Prithviraj Smarak is a memorial place that honours the great hero of the Rajput Chauhan dynasty, Prithviraj Chauhan. The 'Smarak' or mausoleum is located at Taragarh Road in Ajmer City of the Indian state, Rajasthan. The statue at Prithviraj Smarak reflects a bow and arrow in his hand riding on a horse, and the statue consists of black stone. Prithviraj Smarak is popular amongst tourists and the locals because of the legend of the brave warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan.

He was the last ruler of the Chauhan dynasty. Prithiviraj Chauhan was an epitome of courage and patriotism and was to rule the twin capitals of Delhi and Ajmer in the 12th century. His personality is full of courage and bravery, depicted through the statue of him on a horse with his front hoof up in the air. It is a symbol in equestrian sculpting, which means he was executed after his loss in the battle. The king was slain by Mohammad Ghori in the second battle of Tarain in 1192. Therefore, the Smarak is also a war memorial. Apart from all the PLACES TO VISIT IN AJMER, Many tourists also visit Prithviraj Smarak to pay respects to the great leader. Various AJMER PACKAGES offer a tour of this place as well.

Prithviraj Smarak legacy:

At its height, Prithviraj Chauhan's empire extended from the Sutlej River in the west to the Betwa River in the east, and from north to south, his empire extended from the Himalayan foothills to Mount Abu respectively. However, in the late medieval period, the stories written in Sanskrit of Prithviraj Chauhan suggest that he was an unworthy king who was responsible for his own downfall. The stories suggest that he mistreated his subordinates which turned them against their own king. He was the last Hindu Emperor, which can be inaccurate as several other stronger Hindu rulers ruled south of him after his demise. On Muslim accounts, Prithviraj Chauhan's defeat is like a major milestone in the Islamic conquest of India.
