The Desert National Park is situated in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan between the towns of Jaisalmer and Barmer. The Desert National Park covers an area of 3162 km2, making it one of the largest national parks of the country. Significance of the Desert National Park:

The Desert National Park is an excellent place to observe and know more about the Desert land and its ecosystem. The area of the park extends  all the way to the India-Pakistan border. The majestic sand dunes and desert wildlife never fails to excite all those who visit this place. The most unexpected fact about this place is, that despite being an arid desert region, it displays a wide range of flora and fauna around the Thar Desert.

The Desert National Park is a paradise for bird-watchers. It is honoured with the presence of several endangered species of birds like that of the Indian Bustard which can be spotted near the Sudashri water hole. Other birds to be spotted include Sandgrouse, Partridges, bee-eaters and larks which are present all year round. The winter birds include the demoiselle crane, the houbara bustard and others. Its Flora consists of Ronj trees , Palm trees, ziziphus shrubs etc. Important mammals like that of the Bengal Tiger, the Desert Fox, the Desert Cat, Chinkara, wolves and hedgehogs can be spotted during the desert safari experience. The spiny-tailed lizard and other reptiles are also found here.

The Desert National Park also has a wide collection of fossils of various animals and birds. Some of these fossils are even 180 million years old, which makes it an important site for excavators as well. Fossils and remains of dinosaurs , which are almost 6 million years old , have also been found here.
