‘Havelis’ or Palaces are an integral part of places like Rajasthan, where living in luxurious royalty was once a normal way of life for many. Among many such Havelis that demand tourist’s attraction, one is Salim Singh Ki Haveli. A tour of this haveli is often found in many JAISALMER TOURISM PACKAGES. Owing to its very accessible distance from the Jaisalmer Railway Station, visitors are often lured to this site first after they reach the city. The marvellous architecture of this haveli is what lures people towards it. A quick tour of this place should definitely make it to your list of places to visit in Jaisalmer.
Salim Singh Ki Haveli history:
Salim Singh Ki Haveli was constructed in the year 1815 by Salim Singh Mahto, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. The building stands tall in a good condition almost 300 years later today, and a part of it is still inhabited by the descendants of Salim Singh. The Haveli is also sometimes known for its beautiful Moti Mahal which was the hall where dances used to be held to entertain guests and courtiers. The most important part about the architecture of Salim Singh Ki Haveli is its roof area. The roof contains carved corners and brackets that resemble a peacock. The palace is often also called ‘Jahaz Mahal’ meaning the Palace of Ships owing to the fact that its front façade looks like a ship's stern. The structure of the building is arched with the presence of blue-coloured cupolas. This place is a very good option for anybody who is interested in beautiful and huge palaces or Rajasthani architecture patterns.
