This temple is one of the 7 important Jain temples located in Jaisalmer Fort; these temples are one of the most religious places in Jaisalmer. All the 7 Jain temples were built around the 12th and 15th centuries AD and all of them dedicated to different Jain tirthankaras. The biggest of the 7 temples is the Parsvanatha temple, Shantinath Temple is considered as one of the most attractive temples. This temple features Dilwara style paintings and architecture that were famous in the medieval era. The structure is made out of yellow sandstone. The main attraction here are the intricate carvings. History of Shantinath Temple:
The first temple built out of the seven temples was in 1509. It was dedicated to the eighth tirthankara. The temple features fine sculpture in the mandap, intense sculpture on the pillars. There are fine sculptures protected by glass cabinets. Shantinath Temple was built in 1536 AD which is dedicated to Shri Shantinath. The idol of Shri Shantinath has been beautifully carved. The premise of Shantinath Temple also has a Gyan bhandar which is a library that consists of rare manuscripts of India.
