Overview of Archeological Museum
The Archeological Museum shelters the rich history of the city of ruins – Hampi. The Archeological Museum, one of the interesting places to visit in Hampi is located at Kamalapura which is a suburb in the Bellary District. The Museum exhibits the culture and traditions of Vijayanagar Kingdom and other significant aspects of Hampi. Although, the museum is located in a small town and itself is a small museum but preserves highly valuable relics and artifacts. The Museum was inaugurated in 1972, since then it maintains the captivity of the royalty of bygone days of Hampi, elegantly. It is regulated by the Archeological Survey of India.
History of Archeological Museum
The Archeological Survey of India took an oath to restore and preserve the remnants of the Hampi city. Therefore, they took the initiative to establish the Museum to store safely the ruins of Hampi and Vijayanagar Empire. Before independence, the British Officials put an effort to preserve the remnants of the city. They gathered several significant relics, statues, sculptures, and artifacts from the destroyed city and stored them within the elephant stables. Therefore, when the Archeological Museum came into existence, all were moved from the elephant stables to well-preserved museum. The Archeological Museum is a place dictating the history of Hampi, hence flocks of tourists visit this small museum during their Hampi tourism.
Exhibits of Archeological Museum
The Museum is storing thousands of architectural pieces, ornaments, and sculptures. All those relics and artifacts are evidence to the rich era of Vijayangar Empire. The Archeological of Hampi is segregated into four galleries.
