About Anayirankal Dam

The popular site of the concrete dam of Anayirankal falling on the way to Thekkady is one of the most visited spots of the Munnar region attracting innumerable people going through the road halting for some aesthetic refreshment. Anayirangal Dam history

The dam is the meeting spot for elephants that come here for drinking water. The name ‘Anayirangal’ is derived from mixing two words, namely- aana and irangal, meaning elephant and descend. The dam was constructed in the 1960s.

Being among the first few concrete dams built around Munnar, the spectacular dam is often visited by the locally inhabiting Elephants from the jungle nearby which makes it an exciting sight to behold.
