About Idukki

Skilfully created by the combination and confluence of three huge dams is this magnificent dam named Idukki which is a significant part of not just Kerala Tourism but also the history of India when it comes to hydraulic powers and dam constructions. With several physical and mythological specifications associated with the place, the Idukki site is definitely among the best places to visit in Kerala and a prominent part of Munnar tour packages.

Legend

The legends claim that during the Van-vasa of the Hindu Lord Rama, his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana, the trio stayed here for some time. It is widely believed here among the locals that Lord Rama cursed two brothers named Kurathi and Koravan who were the local inhabitants. They were turned into idols of stone as they were caught by him watching Sita Mata while she dipped in the waters of the sacred river of Periyar flowing here. On begging for mercy from him, they were said to live together as the inseparable duo of brothers for ages to come. The renowned Idukki dam today is the same linking pin which joins the two mythological hillocks each of the two named after the two brothers. The representative site is definitely among the best places to visit in Munnar and it is also a top location in all Munnar tour packages.
