The Junagarh Fort is in the Indian city of Bikaner, Rajasthan. The Junagarh Fort is also famous as the Chintamani Fort. This one is one of the few forts that isn't on top of a hill. It's legendary because other countries have tried to attack it many times and could not get through. One of the most interesting places to visit in Bikaner is the Junagarh Fort.

What is the history of Junagarh Fort?

Raja Rai Singh, the sixth king of Bikaner, built the Junagarh fort. From 1571 to 1611 AD, he was king. People worked on making the fort from 1588 to 1593. Karan Chand Junagarh, Raja Rai Singh's prime minister, kept a close eye on the building of the fort complex.

Before the new fort was built, there was an old stone fort made by RaoBika, the first king of Bikaner, from whom the city got its name. Jodha was the father of Jodhpur, and RabBika was his second son. He made his own since he didn't think he would receive the kingdom.

But Bikaner did very well when Raja Rai Singh was in charge. He agreed to let the Mughal Empire rule him, earning praise and receiving many awards. He was in charge of their army and led many successful attacks on other countries. What he learned in the different places he travelled to made him an expert in art and architecture. Tourists can see it in how they built the fort.

What are the main attractions inside Junagarh Fort?

Located in Rajasthan, Junagarh Fort maintains some essential sights, including the Anup Mahal with its minutely designed wooden ceilings, the Phool Mahal with beautiful mirror work, and the Karan Mahal with an overall impressive structure.

The fort also consists of the Har Mandir, a privately owned temple reserved only for the royal family for their use, and the Chandra Mahal, magnificently decorated with paintings and carvings. A museum within the fort also houses royal weapons and artefacts. The Jungar Fort is a must-visit during the Bikaner tour package.

The best time to visit the Fort

Suppose people want to see everything that Junagarh Fort in Bikaner offers. In that case, they should plan to go there in the winter, from October to March. At this point, the weather is warm enough that exploring the fort grounds and doing other outdoor activities is not too uncomfortable.
