Katchal Island history

This place was once known as Tihanyu. This was an aboriginal tribal reserve area where the local tribes were observed. They were extremely dangerous people. There is not a single residence found in this place and strict permission is given to the tourist to explore the place. This place is under the control of the tourism department of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

It is a place for the indigenous and even non-indigenous people. As per history, this was the kingdom of the Cholas of Tanjore, the Danish explorers once explore this place. After Indian independence, it is under the control of the Andaman country’s management.  

Katchal Island tsunami

This place is one of the most badly affected places when the Tsunami hit the shores in the year 2004. The devastation of the land completely disturbed the socio-economic culture of the place. More than 5000 tribes died in the devastation. Thus, visiting this place during monsoon time period restricts the intervention by the forestry department of the Andaman

Katchal Island sunrise

 Witnessing the sunrise of Katchal is dynamic.  If you go there you require to witness the hues of colour mixing into the air. The hills of the Katchal Island are made by sandstone and marble slates which are collected from the nature of the tropical rain forest. The diverse flora and fauna along with bird watching is a lovely experience to witness along with the breathtaking sunsets and sunrises at the Katchal Island. 

Best time to reach Katchal Island

Katchal Island is best explored in the winter season due to dryness everywhere. November to May is the ideal time when the climatic condition seems to be pretty convenient to explore. The temperature remains 34 degree Celsius to enjoy the beach breeze and the sunny daylight from the mangroves.
