Cellular Jail

In the context of the restoration of the traditional culture, the Cellular Jail in the beautiful place of Andaman and Nicobar Islands stands as a dark reminiscence of the ancient British rule. It is often considered being a haunted place, as a lot of cruel and brutal torture has been witnessed and stuck on the walls of this prison. The penal colony in one of the places to visit in Andaman which was once designed by the British to break people has been included in the dark chapters of the history. The soul-destroying slave works the unbearable torture has forced to endure the incarceration of many prisoners. The bashing torture on the prisoners to live a life of hell inside the oil mills makes the place thrilling. The soulful crying sounds of the helpless prisoner and the cold feeling still prevail inside the jail.

At those time periods, escaping from the Kala-Pani jail (Cellular Jail) was impossible. Going back to history, in March 1868, 238 prisoners tried to escape from the place. One who could successfully make an effort to find the way back to home was Jhariya Oraon.  He reached home safely by crossing the seas. He hailed from the West Champaran district in Bihar. 

Due to lack of usage and historical property protection the building is damaged, and only a few. Among all the only three wings are working. The tower remains working too. The cellular jail has its own scenic beauty. The greens and the structure is made in a much more impressive way.
