People worldwide see the beautiful fort, which is very important in history. The local people often visit the place for a day picnic with family and friends. The Kondapalli Fort is one of the best places to visit in Vijayawada.

As you look around the high fort, don't miss the stunning view of the valley. The Kondapalli Dolls and other wooden toys made by people from this town are famous. Some vendors might have these pretty dolls you can buy and bring back as a gift if you're lucky.

What is the Speciality of Kondapalli Fort?

It is a beautiful piece of architecture. The Dargah Darwaja's main gate is carved from a single granite boulder. Other features include a reservoir, the Golconda Darwaza, the Dargah of Gareeb Sahib, the Tanisha Mahal, and several historical buildings now in ruins. The fort is a must-visit during the Vijayawada tour package.

Architecture of Kondapalli Fort

Kondapalli Fort has three entrance gates, with the first being a granite block famous as Dargha Darwaza, leading to Jaggaiahpet village. The fort features towers, battlements, a reservoir, and water tanks. There is the Tanisha Mahal at the very end. It has several rooms, a Durbar Hall, an English Barrack, and an English cemetery. The fort also houses a reservoir, water tanks, and a spring.

History

The Musunuri Nayaks built the Kondapalli Fort in the 1400s, and many groups ruled it. Hamvira, son of Gajapati Kapilendra Deva, won the Kondaveedu Territory in 1453 but had to relinquish control to the Bahmani King. Purushottam, in 1476, regained Orissa, but a famine struck Kondapalli, leading to a revolt and Hamvira's return.

Purushottam, a Bahmany ruler, attempted to conquer Kondapalli and Rajahmundry but was captured and signed a treaty, causing hostile relations. After Sultan Muhammad's death, he conquered Kondapalli. After his death, his son Prataprudra Deva reigned. Kondapalli was ruled by the Mughals and the British and used as a military training base.

The best time to visit

The best time to visit Kondapalli Fort is from November to February when the weather is nice. The high temperature stays between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, and the low temperature stays between 17 and 21 degrees Celsius. It makes travelling more accessible because there aren't many places to sit in the shade near the fort.
