Also, its believed there’s a huge hidden treasure hidden somewhere near the temple, but, to date has never been discovered.
About Lord Subramanya Temple
The 17th-century Tiruchendur Murugan Temple is located about 80 kilometers from Kanyakumari and is believed that its Lord Murugan’s second home. Perched atop the beautiful hills of Chandana, it was the site where the demon named Soorapadma was defeated by Lord Murugan. After defeating, Murugan offered his prayers to Shiva.
Marungoor Murugan Temple history
Once known by the name of Idai-aatru-mangalam, the village of Marungoor is famous for this Murugan Temple. Regarded as one of the oldest places in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the village is about 2000 years old. An erstwhile war base, it was used for storing weaponry and horses.
Legend
As per one legend associated with this famous KANYAKUMARI TEMPLE, its construction was the result of Lord Murugan’s victory over Surapadma, a demon. Its also believed that Murugan of this temple is richer than the deity at Trivandrum.
More about the place
Famously called ‘Arupadai Veedu’ or one of holiest abodes of Lord Murugan, this temple comes alive during special religious festivals. It was renovated way back in 1983 and has since remained in good condition. It is also famous for its unique architectural feature ‘Rajagopuram’ which is built not in the eastern but western direction.
