Rather, it is an artificial fall that features a picturesque pool like formation at the bottom where the water of the falls accumulates. Thirparappu Falls is merely fifty-five kilometers from the coastal town of Kanyakumari which makes it a haven for many local visitors that throng here to get one with nature. The water from this falls cascades down fifty feet below into the pool where people gather together to take dips. 

Legend

Legend has it that the Mahadevar Temple which is situated very near to the waterfall was the spot where Lord Shiva manifested himself into Veerabhadra. This form of Shiva is the deity worshipped at this temple. Also, the seer Adi Shankaracharya visited this temple plenty of times.

The waterfall is also visited by pilgrims who assemble here to offer their prayers at the famous Mahadevar Temple. It is famed for its magnificent architecture and ancient inscriptions. The spot is also visited in huge numbers by local residents for boating.
