About Tsunami Monument

It was constructed with the sole purpose of paying tribute to the people who died in the Tsunami of 2004. Many people who survived the calamity can be seen paying their respects as well, and it is really heart-wrenching. It was Mr. B Kanagaraj Cangan who can be applauded for building such a special 16-foot monument, the beauty of which is truly remarkable. The structure is made out of pure steel and holds a black plaque mentioning the date of the tsunami. Featuring two hands, with one restraining a huge wave depicted in blue, and the other that holds a ‘hope’ lamp, the entire monument is symbolical of man’s will power to stay positive even in the darkest of times. Hence, when selecting Kanyakumari tour packages, it is recommended to include a visit to this destination.

More about the place

The monument is located just on the shores of the Kanyakumari beach and is built within a small garden like landscape. Visitors can see the main structure along with many other structures that are built in a contemporary style. The whole atmosphere surrounding the monument is calm and a different feeling, a feeling of sadness overpowers your heart. When you come here, take some time remembering those who died untimely and left their loved ones. Pay your respects and you will feel much better when you leave.
