Arjuna's penance is a very famous rock relief that is present in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. This place has very beautiful carvings and depictions of Hindu stories. King Mahendra Verman 1 was one of the most famous kings of the Pallavas dynasty. It is believed that the arjuna's penance was built by Mahendra Verman and his son Narasimhavarman 1.

This Arjuna penance is also known as “the descent of the Ganges”. It is also believed that during the 17th century CE under the rule of the Pallavas dynasty, Arjuna penance was built. A massive Boulder is present at the height of 42 feet and 25 feet wide. On that Boulder, the carving is located.
