Shore temple

Shore Temple is a very famous UNESCO world heritage site. This famous temple is located in the town of Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. The famous Shore temple was constructed during the rule of the Pallava dynasty. King Rajasimha was a very famous king of this dynasty. It is believed that during the rule of King Rajasimha, this temple was constructed in the 8th century CE. Later on, when the British came to rule the place, they again found the temple in the 18th century.

Shore Temple Mahabalipuram architecture

The shore temple Mahabalipuram is well known for its beautiful architecture and carvings. The temple was created earlier on the shores of the Bay of Bengal. You can even see very beautiful Dravidian-style architecture in the temple. The whole shore temple is constructed using granite. Not only this, but a chariot shape is followed for the temple.

When you visit the temple, you can easily see scenes of Hindu mythology on the walls. There is a pyramid-shaped tower also present inside the temple. 

There are three shrines present inside the temple. The central shrine is dedicated to lord Shiva. Along with this, the other two shrines are dedicated to lord Vishnu. At the entry point of the temple, you can find a sculpture of Nandi. A small garden is also present inside the temple.

The Shore temple is east facing, and the main sanctum Sanctorum of the temple is located in the west. You will find that the temple is made in a very symmetric way. All the parts of the temple are equally symmetric. 

A tower or Vimana is present in the temple, made up of granite. The Vimana is created using beautiful architecture.  On the top of the tower, a single stone is also present. This stone is balancing several other stones also.
