It is believed that once upon a time, Lord Krishna was stealing butter from his mother. In that situation, Mother Yashoda hung the butter from the ceiling so that Lord Krishna couldn't reach the butter. So once upon a day, Lord Krishna thought of stealing the butter. So he asked his friend to make a pyramid so that he would climb up and grab the butter. But they failed to do so. After that, Lord Krishna lifted the bowl with his little finger, and the butter was standing like that in spite of the gravity. 

So, the owner of Lord Krishna, the boulder, was named Krishna's butter ball. During various dynasties' rule, they tried to move the boulder, but they failed to do so.
