Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is a very popular temple in the town of Srisailam. It is on the southern shore of the River Krishna. More than any other temple in town, the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is the most famous. It was built by King Harihara Raya of Vijayanagar six hundred years ago. The temple is one of the best places to visit in Srisailam.

The temple is a Hindu pilgrimage site that looks into history, politics, the arts, science, and spirituality from different fields. It is in the difficult terrain of the Nallamala hills and has beautiful nature around it. The beautiful views of the temple make it worth visiting during the Srisailam tour package.

Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple History

The temple tells the story of how Goddess Parvati cursed Sage Bringi to stand because he only worshipped Lord Shiva. After giving the goddess relief, Lord Shiva gave him a third leg to make it easier for him to stand. Idols of Nandi, Sahasralinga, and Nataraja can be found here, along with a figure of the wise man Bringi, who stands on three legs.

There are also beautiful carvings and sculptures on the walls and pillars of the buildings. This is the one holy building on the Nallamala Hills that you should not miss while you are here. It is one of the most beautiful temples in Srisailam.

Architecture

The temple's huge halls, mesmerizing idols, and beautiful carvings, along with its tall walls saw the devotion of great dynasties like the Satavahanas, Ikshvakus, Pallavas, Chalukyas, and Redis, as well as Siddhis, great mythological rulers like Sri Rama, Ravana, and all five Pandavas, and many modern spiritual gurus, rishis, and devotees, make it a work of art.

In India, it is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and Shakti Peethas. Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Goddess Bhramaramba Devi have both revealed themselves there. It makes the temple unique because it has both Jyotirlinga and Mahasakthi under one roof. It's clear from the building that men and women can live together as equals to one another.

Why is Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple famous?

Sri Lanka One of the 18 Maha Shakti Pitha is the well-known Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple. The story of Daksha Yaga and Sati's self-immolation led to the birth of Sri Parvati as Sati Devi's replacement and Shiva becoming a housewife. This myth tells the story of how Shakti Pithas came to be.
