Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is a very popular temple in the town of Srisailam. It is on the southern shore of the River Krishna. More than any other temple in town, the Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple is the most famous. It was built by King Harihara Raya of Vijayanagar six hundred years ago. Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple History
The temple tells the story of how Goddess Parvati cursed Sage Bringi to stand because he only worshipped Lord Shiva. After giving the goddess relief, Lord Shiva gave him a third leg to make it easier for him to stand. Idols of Nandi, Sahasralinga, and Nataraja can be found here, along with a figure of the wise man Bringi, who stands on three legs.
There are also beautiful carvings and sculptures on the walls and pillars of the buildings. This is the one holy building on the Nallamala Hills that you should not miss while you are here. It is one of the most beautiful temples in Srisailam.
Architecture
The temple's huge halls, mesmerizing idols, and beautiful carvings, along with its tall walls saw the devotion of great dynasties like the Satavahanas, Ikshvakus, Pallavas, Chalukyas, and Redis, as well as Siddhis, great mythological rulers like Sri Rama, Ravana, and all five Pandavas, and many modern spiritual gurus, rishis, and devotees, make it a work of art.
