Collection of the Museum

The museum's mummy and the skeleton of a Blue Whale are the main attractions in the Museum. Museums also have collections of Mughal miniatures and Tibetan art. The Museum has a collection of art sculptures and ethnology. 

Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad 3 had a collection of many artefacts before the Museum. Museum, and he donated his entire collection to the Museum. The Museum has displays from many countries like Japan, China, Europe, Egypt, Greece and Rome. It also has a different section for the Gaikwad family. The most famous collection of artefacts is from Egypt.

The picture gallery

The picture gallery was added to the Museum but opened to tourists in 1921. The delay in the opening of the picture gallery was due to the First World War.

The paintings in the picture gallery are not only the original but are also the masterpieces. The picture gallery has beautiful artwork like paintings, sculptures, and drawings from Italy, Portugal, and the Netherlands. 

History of Baroda Museum & Picture Gallery

Sayaji Rao 3 built the Baroda Museum in 1879 A.D. The Museum is around 113 acres. The famous architect R.F. Chisholm designed the Museum. The picture gallery was added later, in 1910. The picture gallery has a collection of artworks by famous British painters.
