Kirti Mandir is another monument by the Gaikwad dynasty. The Mandir is in honour of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaikwad III's silver jubilee in 1936. The temple is in the centre of the city. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in Vadodara.

What is the story of the Kirti Mandir?

Sayajirao Maharaja is reported to have built Kirti Mandir in commemoration of deceased members of the royal Gaekwad dynasty, allowing the structure to be consecrated to Lord Mahadev. It was one among numerous constructions by the Maharaja. 

The golden era of Maratha authority in Baroda began in 1875 when Sayajirao Maharaja came to power and introduced many changes to the city.

What is the architecture of the Mandir?

The structure is built in the Indo-Saracenic style. The "E" shaped planning, shikhara and jharokha windows, and finials represent this design. The structure's shikhara'' has a distinctive finial depicting the sun, moon, and earth with an undivided map of India.

The interiors have murals by Nandalal Bose on themes such as Gangavataran, Meera's Life, the Battle of Mahabharat, and Natir Puja, as well as some rare paintings by the great artist Raja Ravi Varma.
