The UNESCO World Heritage Site Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park is located in the Panchmahal district of Gujarat, India. Champaner is in Gujarat, 50 kilometres from Baroda, near the foothills of the Pavagadh hill.

The Pavagadh hill, made up of reddish-yellow stone formations, is one of India's oldest rock formations. The hill is 800 metres above sea level. It is one of the best Archaeological Parks among the places to visit in Vadodara.

Champaner and Pavagadh, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, are sometimes grouped as one of Gujarat's most captivating historical sites. Pavagadh rises on top of a hill overlooking the sprawl of monuments at Champaner's foot.

From the eighth to the fourteenth centuries, the pair formed a magnificent heritage site filled with forts, mosques, monuments, tombs, arches, temples, and step-wells. Today, the followers go to Pavagadh to pray at the Kali Mata Temple, which is devoted to the goddess Kali and is on the top of the mountain.

Champaner is the only Islamic-Mughal city without any human interference. It shows the real taste of the Mughal era's architecture. In contrast, the Kalika Mata Temple on Pavagadh Hill attracts thousands during Navratri.

What is the history of the Champaner - Pavagadh Archaeological Park?

Pavagadh Hill was a famous Hindu fortification by the Solanki rulers of Gujarat, whose followers were the Khichi Chauhans. Sultan Mahmud Begarah gained control of the fort in 1484 and renamed it Muhammadabad. You can find these monuments on the Mauliya plateau, which is on a hill.

The earliest temple, dating from the 10th to 11th centuries, is in honour of Lakulisa, and only Gudha mandapa and Antarala remain. Other temples belong to the Hindu and Jain religions. The temples are from the 13th to 15th centuries A.D. All of the temples are Nagara in architecture, including garbhagriha, mandapa, and an entrance porch.

What is Champaner and Pavagadh Archaeological Park famous for?

The Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, with its ancient Hindu and Jain architecture, temples, and special water retaining installations, as well as religious, military, and agricultural structures dating back to Mehmud Begda's regional Capital City in the 16th century, represents gone away cultures. An attraction must be in your Vadodara tour package.

How many steps are there in Pavagadh?

Pilgrims seeking blessings can climb 2000 stairs to reach the temple, or they can take the Udan Khatola cable cars. The ropeway is 763 metres long, and all cabins are closed.

What is the best time to visit Pavagadh?

The best months to visit Champaner Pavagadh, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are October to February. The temperature ranges from 12 to 29 degrees Celsius, with clear blue skies and nice weather. The summers, on the other hand, are brutal. The heat is unbearable, with temperatures hitting 44 degrees.
