Dal Lake is situated in Kangra district, near Tota Rani in Dharamshala. It is surrounded by Deodar and Oak trees. The lake is situated at an amazing altitude of 1,775 meters above sea level.
The surrounding is beautiful and picture-perfect. It is one of the peaceful places to visit in McLeod Ganj. Besides that the Dal Lake, there is a sacred temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, One of the Hindu Gods. The Dal Lake gets its name from the another Dal Lake of Srinagar.
The Lake has greenish water which are reflections from the tall trees. Along with sitting and ideally enjoying the environment, visitors can also go and offer prayers in the sacred Shiva Temple. The devotees from the Gaddi tribe take a dip in the lake as they believe it is sacred, before worshipping Lord Shiva.
Dal Lake is a refreshing place for all the visitors coming from metropolitan life. Away from the noises of city life, this place is very peaceful. Tourists are advised to wear comfortable clothes and trekking shoes as there is a small and easy trek which people can enjoy in a very short span of time indeed.

In the month of September, a famous fair popular as the Dal Fair organized on the banks of Dal Lake.
