About Aruvikkara Dam
Lodged on the shores of Karamana River and in a village named Aruvikkara, the dam attracts a large chunk of travelers from everywhere in India. It is positioned about 16 kilometers in the northern part of Trivandrum city. It was constructed in the 1930s. People gather here to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this dam that features a garden and a reservoir. It is a favorite spot for picnickers as well as people that love feeding fish.
Aruvikkara Temple
There is Bhagavathi Temple that also draws its fair share of visitors. This temple has a rivulet and is filled with fish. Fishing is not allowed here as they are considered holy by devotees. The water housed in this dam is fed to the residents of Trivandrum. The temple is revered among locals and is considered an important Trivandrum temple.
More About the Place
Perfect spot for picnicking, the dam is a favored destination for many families with young kids. One can enjoy walking here and spending hours together without any disturbance. Among other things, there is a man-made waterfall that looks well maintained and is ideal for taking a picture. Many locals drive here during the weekends to have fun with their friends. Some fun activities like boating are available here. There is one shop that sells mineral water, tea and snacks. When on a visit here, do take some time out to go to the crocodile sanctuary and the zoo that are located closely.

For those that like to enjoy solitariness, weekdays are perfect as there isn’t much crowd. The public is not allowed to walk over this dam. Also positioned nearby is a water purifying plant that one can visit only after taking prior permission from the authorities. If one wishes to stay overnight, they can book the Government guest houses built here.
Aruvikkara Dam park
This dam that is considered one of the prime places to visit in Trivandrum also features a small but pretty park. Most weekends, one can find the dam and its park filled with families, with young kids seen jumping and frolicking around. The park is an ideal spot to lay lazily and appreciate the natural surroundings.
