About Shanghumugham Beach 

Positioned only 10 kilometers from Trivandrum Central, and 8 kilometers from Trivandrum city, this beach is a favorite hangout for most locals. The star attraction of this beach is the Jalakanyasculpture that was created by Kanai Kunjuraman, a famous sculptor. It is not uncommon to spot jaywalkers as well as young couples strolling down the white sandy shoreline. The beach becomes the perfect spot for taking some time out for relaxation and rejuvenation. Another reason why most people make a beeline for this beach is its close proximity to the airport.

Kids go bonkers at this beautiful beach as there are so many things to do here. While, making sand castles and playing in the soothing waters of the sea are favourite ways to pass time, there is yet another attraction to entice the youngsters. There is Jawaharlal Nehru Traffic Training Park where kids can spend time learning about traffic rules. 

Star fish-shaped restaurant!

Apart from the nymph’s sculpture that draws hundreds to the Shanghumugham Beach, there is yet another star attraction to captivate visitors. It is the famous starfish-shaped restaurant where one can gorge on yummy food and replenish their energy with cool drinks. A must visit place for sure!

Festivals

The beach transforms into a fair especially during festivals like Vinayaka Chathurthi and Bali Tharpanam. The sight of devotees thronging the beach for Ganesh Nimajjanam fills the heart with gaiety. During Bali Tharpanam, devotees gather at this beach in thousands. Special processions are taken out during Arattu Day when idols of Lord Narasimha, Padmanabhaswamy, and Krishna are bathed in the waters at this beach. It’s a sight to behold looking at the King of Travancore leading the procession on this day. The whole beach and its surroundings become colorful with guards and members of the royal family gathered together to perform the rituals.

The beach has other attractions to lure visitors. It’s the skating school and sports complex that offer coaching in skating and Badminton. The famous Veli Tourist Village is also closely located and is a must to be seen.
