About Halcyon Castle

Made primarily as a summer retreat for the royalty of Travancore, this castle is a fine example of Travancore’s traditional style of architecture. The castle’s ownership changed many hands, from the royal family to the Kerala Government, to a hotelier. The latter bought the castle and converted it into a super-luxury resort for customers. The castle became Kovalam’s most popular hotel since then and has thrived successfully. Some eye-grabbing features to hook people to it are its rolling lawn that encapsulates the whole castle from all around; a private beach meant exclusively for the guests of the hotel; and the world-class luxuries in stylishly decorated rooms. 

Halcyon Castle history

The legendary castle came into being in 1934 by Rani Sethu’’s husband M.R Sri Rama who got it constructed mainly to live there with his family. It was a summer retreat for the royals before being sold to Kerala Government in 1964. After a hotelier bought the ownership of the castle, it was transformed into a five-star resort with collaboration from Leela Group.
