Any CHITTORGARH TOURISM PACKAGE is incomplete without the Fateh Prakash Palace Museum. This glorious double-storeyed palace is an outstanding example of contemporary Indian architecture.

Rana Fateh Singh constructed this palace, which has now been converted into a museum. Maharana Fateh Singh helmed as one of the greatest Mewari rulers. His reign span from 1884 to 1930. During that time, he spearheaded many cultural projects, among which his palace stands apart. The government turned it into a museum in 1968 to illuminate the history, art, culture, and architecture of Rajasthan.

A turret on each of the four edges of the palace gives the palace a protected look. Furthermore, the buildings are crowned by vaulted chhatris. Other than that, the richly decorated corridors and walls reveal Fateh Singh’s impeccable aesthetic sensibility. The vast halls of the palace used to hold large and lavish gatherings of aristocrats.

The museum has two sections. One part holds all the items related to the Rajput dynasty- coins, art, weapons, etc. The other part exhibits the woodcrafts of Bassi village. An extensive collection of sculptures has become the ornament to the museum. Among the sculptures, the Lord Ganesh statue from Pangarh deserves a special mention. Possibly, it was sculpted somewhere between the 8th - 9th centuries. Besides, Lord Indra and Jain Ambica, exhibited here, are two fine specimens of exquisite sculpting skills. They were excavated from the village Rashi.

Furthermore, you can see the actual weapons and equipment used by the Rajputs in times of battle. Daggers, knives, shields, axes, helmets, costumes, and uniforms of soldiers, farsa are notable among many other items.

On the other room, traditional woodcrafts of tribal folks are on display. You can see the simple yet beautiful designs of the villagers. In addition to them, a vast collection of solemn royal paintings adds to the glory of the palace. Moreover, the museum authority has attached historical facts with them for a better understanding of the palace. No doubt, this has made Fateh Prakash Palace Museum one of the top places to visit in Chittorgarh.
