The Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as a protected forest area by the Government of Rajasthan on 1st November 1979. The Sanctuary is spread across Pratapgarh and Chittorgarh and is covered under various lists of CHITTORGARH TOURISM PACKAGES. The forest area covers a vast 422.95 square kilometres. The land of this forest is a confluence of three kinds of different formations, they are : Malwa plateau, Vindhyachal Hills and the Aravalli Mountain hills. The Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary’s divisional headquarters is situated at Udaipur, almost 108 kilometres away. This beautiful sanctuary , adept in dry deciduous flora and fauna and water bodies, is a must visit and is definitely worthy of finding a place in everybody’s list of places to visit Chittorgarh.

According to Botanists there are almost 108 types of medicinal herbs that have been spotted here and out of them 17 are even endangered. The Sanctuary has been named as the Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary following the popular belief that the famous Valmiki Ashram and the birthplace of Luv and Kush was originally located here. Therefore, the Sanctuary also has a temple dedicated to Goddess Sita.

The Sitamata Wildlife Sanctuary is full of beautiful trees like that of Sindoor, Gulmohars, Rudrakshas, Bamboos, Bels etc.

The Sanctuary is a treat for bird-watchers. Many kinds of birds are found here, like Egrets, Owls, Herons, Ruddy Shelducks, Eagles, Vultures, Purple Moorhen, Peafowls, Saras Cranes, Common & Wood Sandpiper,  Quails, Pigeons, Black winged Stilt, Cotton Teal and many more. 

Amazing sights of animals like that of Leopards, Wild Boars, Flying Squirrels, Nilgai, Hyenas, Chousinghas, four horned antelopes etc can be found in abundance.
