The Ratan Singh Palace is a monument of historical importance situated inside the Chittorgarh Fort. This palace was specially built by Maharana Ratan Singh II in his lifetime, as a winter home space for the royal family. Maharana Ratan Singh II reigned from the years 1527 to 1531. This massive royal palace was also used as a prime seat for festivals and celebrations extensively. The tour plan of this Palace can be found on various CHITTORGARH TOURISM PACKAGES and is automatically listed along with the tour of the whole of Chittorgarh Fort and other wonders inside it. The Ratan Singh Palace is also one of the most popular places to visit Chittorgarh.

Architecture of the Ratan Singh Palace:

The overall plan of the Ratan Singh Palace is that of a rectangular shape, enclosed by a high ranging wall throughout. The entrance of the Palace is a grand giant arch-way which faces the east. Two pillared ‘chhatris’ can also be seen here. A temple, called the Ratneshwara Mahadeva Temple, lies on the northern side of this entrance. The Palace has a huge courtyard surrounded by lofty rooms and pavilions with balconies. The courtyard also features gardens full of lush greenery, flowers and bushes. This part is however not the private part of the Palace. The private part of the Palace starts with a gate on the northern side. Inside this part of the Ratan Singh Palace lies yet another vast empty space or courtyard like space along with various regal rooms and royal accommodation facilities. There is also a very beautiful balcony that overlooks the sacred Gaumukh reservoir, on the eastern part of the second storey. This often served as the ‘Darikhana’ or the audience hall for various functions and festivities. The Ratan Singh Palace thus gives us a glimpse of the majestic Rajasthani architecture and royal livelihood.

The Chittorgarh Fort was attacked by the army led by Alauddin Khilji. Although the Fort and the palace are still maintained, some of its parts are in ruins owing to the invasion. Many locals often narrate stories about the place being a popular haunt of the souls of all who were killed inside this Fort. Nevertheless, whether it is the impeccable beauty of the Palace and Fort that attracts you, or the related myths and legends, this place is a must visit for anybody who ever comes to Chittorgarh.
