The Ranka Monastery is 20 km away from Gangtok and is also famous as Lingdum Monastery. It is a Buddhist monastery that follows the Zurmang Kagyud path. Counted among the serene places to visit in Gangtok, the royal monastery is spread out over a large area and offers beautiful views for tourists.

People think it is one of the most important and beautiful temples in East Sikkim, but because it is still fairly new, not many people talk about it. Some producers have come to the Ranka Monastery, though, because of how beautiful it is. Several Bollywood movies have been filmed here.

What is Ranka Monastery famous for?

Mountains with lots of trees surround Ranka Monastery, making it one of the most beautiful sites in East Sikkim. There is a two-story house nearby with classes for the young lamas to use. Whenever there is a break, monks in lovely red and golden robes fill the courtyard. People can also take pictures with the monks, who are always active. On-site, there is a diner and a gift shop where you can relax.

The Banjhakri Falls, which are close to the beautiful temple, is another big draw here. People who like to try new things will have a great time here because they can paraglide from here to a nearby spot. The Ranka Monastery will give you a lot of spirituality along with beautiful views. Come here to enjoy the beauty, and make sure to talk to the young monks who are training here.

What is the history of Ranka Monastery?

Zurmang Charwang Rinpoche lives at the Ranka Monastery, which they built in 1998 CE. People believe he is the 12th incarnation of this family. Young monks run this convent because it is still pretty new. They made this building in the traditional Tibetan style and spread it out over a large area with beautiful views. Inside the centre is a huge figure of Lord Buddha sitting on a lotus flower. It is covered in gold. Another thing is that there are low tables in the centre where the lamas read their prayer books.

In the inner area of Ranka Monastery, there are many beautiful drawings and wall hangings that make it look better. In addition, a two-story house stands along the edge of the courtyard, providing several classes where the young lamas learn.

The best time to visit

October through November and March through May are the best times to visit the Ranka Monastery. During these months, the weather is nice and fun at the same time. Many Gangtok tour packages include this serene destination, making it a must-visit during these months.
