Erumbeeswarar temple is also known as Malai Koil temple. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated in Thiruverumbur, Tamil Nadu. The temple was constructed during the Chola's rule, and you can see various amazing architecture and designs in this temple.

There is a gopuram or tower that is present at the entrance of the temple. Very beautiful carvings and sculptures are present on the tower. Along with this, the main phantom of the temple consists of Lingam. The Lingam is worshiped as Malai Koil.

History of the Erumbeeswarar Temple / Malai Koil

The temple was believed to be constructed during the Chola dynasty's rule around the 19th century to the 13th century. Kulothunga was a very famous Chola king of the Cholas dynasty. He ruled between 1070 CE to 1122 CE. During the ruling period of the king, he constructed the famous Erumbeeswarar Temple.

However, during the rule of various other dynasties, different types of construction and repair work happened. But unfortunately, during the power of the British colonial period, the temple needed to be addressed. However, after Independence, the temple was again restored by the government of Tamil Nadu. There are different beautiful places to visit in Trichy. Among those places, the Erumbeeswarar Temple is one of the most visited temples.

The architecture of the temple

A very delicate Dravidian style architecture is followed inside the temple. You can see very beautiful gopurams, mandapas, and sculptures.

Stonewalls surround the Erumbeeswarar Temple complex. Along with this, the Gopuram is divided into different tiers. All of the tiers have very beautiful decorations and carvings.

Various mandapas are also inside the temple, where different religious works are performed. An outer Mandap is inside the temple, also known as Maha Mandap.

Inside the temple, you will find a secret tank where devotees can perform different types of ritual baths. Granite pillars surround the tank.
