Kudumiyanmalai Shikanathar temple is a very popular Hindu temple located in Kudumiyanmalai village. Not only is this temple popular, but this is one of the oldest temples. People worship Lord Shiva as Shikanathar in the temple.

History of the temple

The temple was created around the 11th century AD during the rule of the Chola dynasty. It is believed among locals that Lord Brahma once situated a Lingam as Maragatham at the temple. This temple is also believed to have healing properties, and various people come here to cure their illnesses.

The Nayak dynasty also contributed a lot toward the development of the temple. You can see very beautiful architecture and carvings inside the temple. A great Tamil poet, Thirugnana Sambandar, came to this temple and composed various hymns. From that time, these hymns have been recited in the temple.

The architecture of the Kudumiyanmalai Shikanathar Temple

The temple is built in a square shape design. Among all these corners of the square shape, Gopurams are present. On the Gopuram, you can see very beautiful carvings and sculptures. You can even see various types of Hindu mythology scenes on the walls of the temples.

The scenes of Ramayana and Mahabharata are also shown on the walls. There is a Kalyana Mandapa present inside the temple. This Mandapa has been used for marriage and is supported by 100 pillars.

You can even see a large pond inside the temple known as Shivaganga Theertham. People believe that taking a dip in the pond will fix all the problems and illnesses of the person
