The Keesara Gutta Temple is in the village of Keesara. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his friends Bhavani and Siva Durga. It is also known as the Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple. This temple, which is on top of a hill in the Rangareddy area, gets a lot of visitors every day. This temple is a great place to visit in Hyderabad during the weekend. It is also famous for being an important piece of architecture.

What is the history of Keesara Gutta?

According to tradition, Lord Rama came here to atone for murdering a Brahmin and Shiva devotee after killing Ravana. He chose the valley for Shiva Lingam. So, he despatched Hanuman to procure Varanasi a Shivalingam. Hanuman delivered the lingam late. Lord Shiva gave Lord Ram a lingam for placing as the opportune time approached. Since Lord Shiva installed the lingam, people call the temple Swayambhu Linga and Ramalingeswara.

Legend also says that when Hanuman returned from Varanasi with 101 different lingams for the Lord to choose from, he felt disappointed that they didn't display the lingams he brought. He was so angry that he threw all the lingam on the ground. There are still many lingams all over the building.

The Lord told Hanuman that people would first worship him at the temple to calm him down. He also named the hill where the temple stood Kesarigiri after Hanuman, who is famous as the son of Kesari. People originally called it Kesarigiri, but they changed its name to Keesaragutta over time.

Who built the Keesara Temple?

The Vishnukundina family likely built the Keesara Temple in honour of Lord Shiva between the 5th and 6th centuries. On Keesaragutta Hill, an old temple is historically important and has beautiful buildings from the early Middle Ages.

What is the best time to visit Keesara Gutta?

Festivals like Sri Rama Navami, Hanuman Jayanti, Mahashivratri, Shiva Kalyanam, and Ramalingeswara Brahmotsavam change how people feel at the temple. It is best to visit during these festivals because the enthusiasm and commitment of the people who visit these days make the temple even more beautiful.
