What is the history of Peddamma Temple?

There are many stories and tales about how Peddamma Temple came to be. According to one, she came down to quench her thirst after slaying the monster from this well. Sometime later, a shepherd saw the statue of the goddess where the temple stands now.

In another story, a demon named Mahishasur overthrew Indra, the king of the heavens. Mahishasur was the son of demon king Rambha and a water bull. Because Lord Brahma had blessed him so that neither man nor God could kill him, he became more and more angry.

To stop being cruel, other gods asked for and received the approval of the holy Trinity, which is Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva. This is how Goddess Durga came to be. Mahishasura was a demon. In a fierce fight, the goddess with great power, along with the powers of the Trinity and other gods, killed him.

What festivals are celebrated at Peddamma Temple?

Peddamma Temple is also well-known for its festivals, which bring people from all over the state to seek benefits. It is very exciting and joyful at this temple to celebrate the Bonalu Festival, which takes place in June and July.

Women carry an earthen pot with turmeric, kumkum, and neem leaves on top of it during this holiday. The pot holds things like rice, jaggery, milk, and curd. People carry these clay pots as a gift to the goddess. Rathotsavam, which is held on Ratha Saptami, is another important event at Peddamma Gudi Temple, making it a must-visit spot in any Hyderabad tour package.

Significance of the temple

Maa Durga, Shakti, is worshipped in many Telangana temples. One respected version is Pedamma Thalli. "Peddamma" is a term that originates from the Telugu language and can be translated as "the mother of mothers" or the Supreme Mother. As a result of the fact that "Peddamma Thalli" portrays the goddess as the ultimate Mother, the word "Thalli" signifies "Mother." There are a few different names for Peddamma Thalli, including Sri Gauramma and Sri Ammavaru. This temple worships her as one of eleven Mahakali forms, the universal Mother.
