The Nizam Museum is in the grand Purani Haveli, in the heart of Hyderabad. It is just a few streets away from the famous Charminar. This landmark is very important to the ruling family because it is where many Nizams were born and raised.

Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam, and his father made history in Hyderabad state during their rule. The museum, one of the notable places to visit in Hyderabad, is a tribute to those events. Please keep reading to discover more about the interesting past preserved at the Nizam Museum.

What can you see in the Nizam Museum?

This museum mostly shows gifts and mementoes given to the last Nizam during the 1936 Silver Jubilee events. The museum's main building looks like a palace from the 18th century in Europe. It holds the most enormous wardrobe, 176 feet long, which belonged to the sixth Nizam.

Vintage cars such as the 1930 Rolls-Royce, Packard, and Mark V Jaguar, on which the Nizam Museum has collected fine specimens into various collections. In turn, there is the magnificent collection of jewelry that includes the Jacob Diamond one of the largest diamonds in the world. This also presents a short section containing vintage photographs depicting how the Nizams lived and what Hyderabad was like in their heyday.

Various arms and weapons used by the Nizam and his soldiers are also on show. They give visitors a glimpse into the area's military history. You can also look at the critical collection of historical texts and papers, some hundreds of years old.

History of Nizam Museum

The Nizam Museum is the one-stop shop for the history of the Nizams of Hyderabad. It opened in 1936 and contains a collection of rare pieces, including golden thrones, diamond-studded swords, and a replica of the famous Jubilee Hall.
