Bateshwar is a small town which acts as a religious, cultural, and spiritual centre for Hindus and Jains. Situated near Agra, it is one of the PLACES TO VISIT IN AGRA and was built right next to the Yamuna River.

It is famous for the Shiva temples there. There is a group of old shrines along the river. The building has a peaceful atmosphere because it is near a river. 

A trip to Bateshwar is a peaceful escape from the busy world we live in today. The town is also famous for the animal fair that happens every year. People from all over the country come to this fair, one of the biggest in the country.

What is Bateshwar famous for?

Bateshwar is a significant stop on Hindu pilgrimages and is often included in an AGRA TOUR PACKAGE. People also refer to it as the "son of the dams" because they should visit it after the four main dams, which are holy places for Hindus. The area features many temples, with 101 originally constructed; currently, 42 are still standing.

History

According to stories, Lord Shiva rested under this Banyan tree, known as a Bat in Sanskrit. People then called him Bat Ishwar, which means "Banyan Lord." Over time, people began calling this place Bateshwar.

According to legend, King Badan Singh of the Bhadawar family built the temples in Bateshwar Dham Agra about 400 years ago. The builders dedicated over 100 temples in the complex to Baba Bateshwar Nath. However, only 42 of those churches are still standing.

Many old texts mention it, claiming that it is the birthplace of Lord Krishna's mother. The name for this place in old Jain texts is Shauryapura. According to legend, Lord Neminath, the 22nd Tirthankar, was born here. For this reason, Bateshwar and its surrounding areas are also holy to the Jain community.
