Raja Jaswant Singh was a great king during the Mughal rule; this beautiful place known as Jaswant Singh Ki Chhatri was constructed in honor of him. This historical place is close to the Taj Mahal and is also very famous for its beautiful buildings and fine carving. It is indeed a place that a history lover would surely love to visit, and it is said to be a peaceful location. Jaswant Singh Ki Chhatri is one of the less well-known but exciting places to visit in Agra.
Jaswant Singh Ki Chhatri History
The Chhatri is a cenotaph in the shape of a pavilion with a roof and columns. Its design is based on Rajasthani architecture. It is said to be the only building in Agra, and the King made it during the Mughal era, constructed between 1644 and 1658 AD.
Rani Hada was the princess of Bundi in Rajasthan, and this statue is in her honor. The Mughal army killed Amar Singh Rathore, the man she married, at Agra Fort on July 25, 1644. The Mughal army gave his body to Hada Rani, a widow, who then took her own life there. Raja Jaswant Singh made this Chhatri, and he is Amar Singh Rathore's younger brother.
Architecture
No other building like the Chhatri combines Mughal and Hindu styles. The wall that surrounds it is now in bad shape. But the preservation team has saved the massive screen on the east side, facing the river. This site used to have three exits with stairs going down into the water, a group of arched openings with jalis, and two octagonal towers with chhatris on top.
The upside-down lotus flower peaked over the main roof. The queen's main tomb is in a garden on a raised stage. A rectangular baradari surrounds this. The building has twelve pillars made of red sandstone that have beautiful jailwork on them. People often call it "Agra Jali" because the stonework looks like that at Agra Fort.
The best time to visit
October to March is the best time to visit Jaswant Singh Ki Chhatri because the weather is nice and perfect for sightseeing. Many Agra tour packages suggest visiting the city's historical places during this time of year without getting too hot in the summer.
