It was built by Emperor Akbar in 1571 to serve as the capital of the Mughal Empire. Akbar wanted this city to be a big place in which he could run the government. His religious and social beliefs were also reflected in it. Now, at one time, it was a Mughal capital. 

After that, they abstained from it because it didn't have sufficient water and other issues with its implementation. Akbar constructed this beautiful complex to display power and unify his kingdom through grand architecture.

Why is Fatehpur Called a Ghost City?

Fatehpur Sikri is sometimes called a "ghost city" because the people who lived there left soon after it was finished. Although the city was beautiful and of strategic importance, it was fraught with serious water problems that made it impossible to keep as a stable capital. It is the combination of these environmental problems and changes in political objectives that explains why the abandonment of Fatehpur was slow.
