Keoladeo National Park, also known as Keoladeo Ghana National Park, is a beautiful desert in the middle of India. It is famous as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. It is a beautiful green paradise close to Agra.

Keoladeo National Park History

The pond in Keoladeo National Park was artificial more than 250 years ago, so hunters could catch wildfowl. It was a hunting place for the Maharajas of Bharatpur. They also set up shoots for the rulers of Great Britain.

In 1971, authorities designated the area as a protected sanctuary and banned shooting. After that, it was turned into a bird refuge in 1976. A few years later, in 1982, it became a national park.

In 1981, officials added Keoladeo Ghana Park Bharatpur to the list of Ramsar sites. In 1985, authorities later designated it as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
