History of Kushavarta Ghat

Ahilyabai Holkar, a Maratha queen, built this Ghat. Ghat has a long history of association with the revered saint Dattatreya. The Ghat is the Ghat where Dattatreya performed his penance. He stood on one foot for a thousand years, according to legend. It is one of the best places for devotees to conduct mundan ceremonies for children and Shraddha rites for the souls of the deceased. Due to the daily sacred rituals, this Ghat was occasionally too crowded throughout the year.

The Kusha Ghat is considered among all the Ghats found along the banks of the Ganges at Haridwar. At this Ghat, countless devotees and pilgrims take holy baths in the Ganges. Every day, they pray for their ancestors and do all the rituals and ceremonies, including the Shraddha rites for the dead. Early in the 18th century, the brave Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar built the Kushavarta Ghat.
