History
The Lord Shiva temple is part of the well-known Panch Kedars. It is the fourth temple on the Panch Kedar Pilgrimage circuit, along with Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, and Kalpeshwar. There are two minor shrines, one devoted to Shiva's spouse, Parvati, and the other to the Ardhanarishwara.
This temple honors the bull's middle (Madhya) or navel, which appears as a heavenly form of Shiva. It is said that Bhima, the second Pandava brother, built this temple and worshiped Shiva there. A little temple to the right of the main temple has the marble figure of Saraswati in the shrine.
Madhyamaheshwar Trek & height
Hiking this trail with so many things to look out for is a treat. Madmaheshwar is a little holy town whose name comes from Lord Shiva's sacred Madhyamaheshwar Temple. It is at a height of 3490 meters above sea level.
The Madmaheshwar walk is in the northern Himalayas, in the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is well-known for its Himalayan Musk Deer, which is an endangered species. It also has the highest biodiversity in India, with the most diverse flora and animals.
For the most part, the path to Madhyamaheshwar Temple is neatly paved. Although the trail to the peak is 16 kilometers long, no difficult sections require technical skills. The walk is generally downhill till Chhoti Bantoli (Lower Bantoli). Later, it became challenging due to a constant elevation until Madmaheshwar temple.

Madhyamaheshwar weather
• The Madmaheshwar trek is best in the post-monsoon season (September - October) and spring and summer seasons (March - June).
• Although this trip is possible during the monsoon season, we do not encourage it owing to the clouds that obscure the major highlight of the trek - the view of Mt Chaukhamba from Buda Madmaheshwar.
• The trail from Lower Bantoli to Madhyamaheshwar temple is unsuitable for winter hiking to Madmaheshwar. Also, beyond Buda Madmaheshwar, we may see heavy snowfall as it climbs higher.
