Kalpeshwar is the fifth and last temple in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit, and it is the only temple of the five Panch Kedar open all year. The matted hairs, or Jata, or Lord Shiva, are worshiped inside this temple. Temple's history

The legend of the Kalpeshwar temple refers to the Pandavas, heroes of the epic Mahabharata literature. It is the fifth temple of Shiva's five anatomical heavenly forms; the other four temples in the order of their affection are Kedarnath, Rudranath, Tungnath, and Madhyamaheshwar temples.

The Pandavas built the Panch Kedar shrines to seek Lord Shiva's forgiveness for their fratricidal acts during the Kurukshetra conflict. Shiva, incognito, took the bull form to distance himself from the Pandavas. Bhima, the Pandava brother, tried to hold onto the bull, but it vanished underground. It reappeared in five forms.
