In Manek Chowk, you can still find some of the city's old gold stores. Manek Chowk is still the centre of Old Ahmedabad and a popular place for both locals and visitors to shop. There are also modern shopping areas like malls and showrooms in the city. It is one of the most popular and exciting attractions among the places to visit in Ahmedabad.

The Indian jewellery market is the second biggest, and you can buy gold and silver items here during the day. The place is a food lover's dream after 10:30 at night. Ahmedabad was built and planned so that this square would always be the centre of the city for dealing gems and precious metals.

History

In English, the word "Manek" means "ruby," and the park's name comes from the name of a saint, Maneknath. An old story says that Maneknath stopped Emperor Ahmad Shah I, who built Ahmedabad, from making a new city called "Bhadra Fort" in 1411. He has woven a mat during the day and took it apart at night while the walls of the fort were being built.

The walls of the fort fell one day as if by magic, and Ahmad Shah thought it was because of the saint. He got Baba Maneknath to show off his skills by going into a small jar. Once he did, Ahmad Shah locked the lid on top of the pot and buried it. In a different account of the story, Baba Maneknath is said to have helped Emperor Ahmed Shah I build the Bhadra Fort.

What is Manek Chowk famous for?

But it's best known for the food stands. It opens around 9:30 in the evening and stays open until late at night, selling a wide range of local snacks. The Manek Chowk is popular for Kulfi. A site must be in the Ahmedabad tour package.

What is the story of Manek Chowk?

The name of the Chowk comes from the Hindu saint Maneknath. He lived in the 1400s and helped Ahmed Shah I build the Bhadra Fort. The streets of Manek Chowk, despite their poor construction, serve to bring the past into the present.

The best time to visit

Suppose you want to go on holiday to Ahmedabad. In that case, the best time is between November and February, when the weather is fantastic for sightseeing. From March to May, it's boiling, and you won't want to visit a place like Manek Chowk. It rains here from June to October, but that's still an excellent time to visit the city.
