Thotlakonda

The Thotlakonda Buddhist Complex is on top of a hill in Chepala Uppada. It is on the Bheemili Beach Road (after Rishikonda). Thotlakonda is one of the most exciting places in Vizag. 

It has several Buddhist archaeological sites like the Bavikonda and Thotlakonda hilltop monastic structures. The Thotlakonda is worth visiting during the Vizag tour package. 

History 

Thotlakonda, a hill near the sea, was a port for travellers. The ruins of Buddhism were discovered in 1976 during naval base construction. The area is a protected monument under the Andhra Pradesh Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1960.

The stupas were used for almost 400 years, from 200 BCE (Before the Common Era) to 200 CE (Common Era). From 1988 to 1993, a lot of digging was done. It is when the most important history of the stupa was found: the core of Hinayana Buddhism that thrived 2,000 years ago.

There was also a lot of proof found during excavations that led to the Satavahana dynasty and foreign exchange trade. Archaeologists found Roman silver coins and actual Buddha footprints. There were 12 pieces of writing around the stupas, all in Brahmi script. One story says that Thotlakonda came into existence to hold 100 monks and their food, drink, clothes, and medicines.

Thotlakonda is a Buddhist Complex on a hill near Bheemunipatnam. It is about 15 kilometres from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India.

It is still an environment with lots of plants and animals. This heritage spot is home to about 90 different kinds of birds. This is where biologists, geologists, and archaeologists from around the world come every other day to enjoy and record Thotlakonda's beauty and honour its past for future generations.

Thotlakonda has everything that nature lovers could ever want. There is a lot of grass, beautiful historical ruins that tell a story within the heritage site, many plants and animals, and a lovely sea view. The fact that the age is more significant than the city makes it a wonder in the city of fate.
