Humayun's Tomb is where the Mughal Emperor Humayun is buried, as the name suggests. It is the first garden tomb in the Indian region and is in the Nizamuddin East neighbourhood of Delhi. Empress Bega Begum, Humayun's top consort, ordered the construction of this beautiful building between 1569 and 1570.

It is one of the few buildings from that time that used red sandstone on such a large scale. The Persian builder Mirak Mirza Ghiyath came up with the idea for Humayun's Tomb, which is a typical example of Mughal architecture with Persian influences. UNESCO added Humayun's Tomb to its World Heritage List in 1993 because of its beautiful design and long, important history. The Tomb is one of the best places to visit in Delhi.

What is the history of Humayun's Tomb in Delhi?

After Humayun's death in 1556, they buried the emperor of Delhi in Delhi's Purana Qila. His chief consort, Bega Begum, commissioned a massive mausoleum, completed in 1572 AD at the cost of 1.5 million rupees. During India's partition, the Tomb served as an asylum for Muslims migrating to Pakistan. However, vandalism caused significant damage.

Who is buried under Humayun Tomb?

Humayun's Tomb is the final resting place of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. There lies the second Mughal king, who ruled from 1530 to 1540 and again from 1555 until he died in 1556. The Tomb was constructed in the 1600s. This Tomb is an important historical place, proving the excellence of Mughal family members in building buildings; it was constructed before the Taj Mahal. A number of other Mughal family members are buried here.

What is the importance of Humayun's Tomb?

Humayun's Tomb occupies a very special place in history because it was developed before the Taj Mahal and other significant buildings of the Mughals. It was built in 1570 and became one of the earliest garden tombs in the Indian subcontinent. It set the standard for how Mughal tombs should be built.

The style of the Tomb is a fusion of Persian and Indian styles, evidence that over time, Mughal buildings changed. It is also enlisted in UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it very significant in terms of architecture and culture.

What is the beauty of Humayun's Tomb?

Humayun's Tomb is simply beautiful because it is a grand Mughal building with fine models and designs. The facade of the Tomb, made of beautiful red sandstone with intricate marble inlays, also forms part of the big symmetrical garden with lush green grass. The sight from its dome is peaceful and grand, and beautiful grounds and a reflecting pool surround its beauty.

That majestic Tomb, a harmonious amalgamation of Persian and Indian architectural features, complex marble work, and exquisite lettering, is enthralling, beautiful, and very important in history. You can travel to this wonderful piece of architecture with a DELHI TOUR PACKAGE.
