The City Palace of Udaipur is built on the banks of Lake Pichola. It is one of the famous places to visit in Udaipur. The City Palace of Udaipur is said to be Rajasthan’s Largest Royal Complex. It’s a unique place and it’s worth visiting.

The City Palace is nestled in between the Aravalli Hills. The Palace is built with granite and marble which looks absolutely stunning with the natural background.

This amazing Palace of Udaipur still has assortments of Mahals, corridors, courtyards, terraces, pavilions, rooms, and gardens, etc. The palace complex also has a museum that showcases the arts and culture of Rajputs. It contains colorful paintings and typical Rajasthani Style architecture. It is situated on the hill, thus giving a beautiful view of the City.

The design and architecture of the City Palace is a combination of European, Chinese as well as Medieval style. A number of towers, domes, and arches enhance its beauty. The palace itself is situated on a bed of green grasses which gives it a majestic sight. The Palace has also been used in the shooting of several movies.

History of City Palace Udaipur

The City Palace Udaipur was built by Maharana Uday Singh in 1559 and was later enhanced and renovated by his successors. During that time, it served the main seat of power of the Rajputs. It was the place where the Maharaja and his family lived and it was also the place from which the kingdom was administered.

The local people of Udaipur tells a story about why this palace was built on the place it is built.

According to the legends, years before MaharanaUday Singh Built this beautiful Palace complex, one day Maharana Uday Singh went on hunting. He reached the hills of that Udaipur during hunting.

There he met a Sage who was meditating at that place. He advised the Maharana to build a palace at the same place where he was meditating. MaharanaUday Singh shifted his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur.

Hence, we get the Palace complex at the place it is. One interesting thing to know about this Palace is that it witnessed the rule of 42 rulers in the span of 400 years.

The visitors are advised to visit the City Palace in the morning or in the evening time. During this time, the Palace receives less Crowd. It’s better to visit Udaipur in the winter months, which lasts from September to March. The City Palace is also included in JAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE.
