Situated on the North Udaipur, Fateh Sagar Lake is famous for its ethereal beauty and the spectacular view of the Aravalli Range. Like a pearl cloistered inside the shell of Aravalli, this artificial lake is one of the top Places to visit in udaipur.
Although the tag of a man-made lake might make it sound like a latter-day creation, it is actually an edifice of the past. In 1687, Maharana Jai Singh first built this lake as a reservoir. Unfortunately, in the nineteenth century, a catastrophic flood washed away the earthen bund. So, the-then ruler, Maharana Fateh Singh, constructed a new dam on Lake Dewali. He named it 'Connaught Dam' to mark the visit of Duke of Connaught in 1889. However, it was later renamed as 'Fateh Sagar Lake,' honouring the project's instigator.
Fateh Sagar Lake is connected with the famous Lake Pichola through a channel. Besides, water from small rainwater streams and other natural lakes feeds this artificial lake.
Places of Attraction;
Fateh Sagar Lake comprises three islands. The largest of them is Nehru island, essentially a park with lush greenery and a mini-zoo. As an added attraction, they have built a restaurant in the shape of a boat.
The second island has also been converted into a community park. The jet water fountains here are the centres of attraction. Indeed, it is a splendid experience to watch these artificially lit fountains in the evening.
Its uniqueness lies in the fact that this lake holds one of the best solar observatories in Asia- The Udaipur Solar Observatory. It was the idea of the eminent scientist, Dr. Arvind Bhatnagar, to build a solar observatory under the clear sky on this pristine water of the lake. This observatory floats like a white lotus in the azure water.
Aside from these, motorboats are extremely popular among tourists. Additionally, you can look at the eastern dam, which has a marvellous and colossal stone slab.
All in all, your UDAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE is incomplete without a visit to this serene place.
