Soak yourself in the tranquil ambiance of the Srinath Ji Temple Nathdwara, one of the top Places to visit in udaipur.  Commonly known as Srinath ji Darshan among pilgrims, a trip to Nathdwara Temple offers you a spectacular view of the Aravalli Range and the Lake Bagheal.

As per Hindu Mythology, Lord Shrinath is an avatar of Lord Krishna. At Nathwada Temple, Lord Shrinath is holding the Govardhan Parvat on the tip of his little finger of the left hand. His right hand is resting on his waist. This particular image of Krishna celebrates the event when Krishna destroyed Lord Indra’s pride by lifting the Govardhan mountain on his left hand, thereby providing refuge to the people of Braj. Thus, he got the moniker ‘Govardhan Giridhari’. Interestingly enough, here, local people worship Shrinathji as a seven-year-old child. Townsfolk call it ‘Srinath ji ki Haveli’ rather than Srinath ji’s Temple.

The legend goes that Lord Krishna himself wished to be worshipped here. Initially, its resting place was in Vrindaban. But, to keep it safe from the wrath of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, the temple authority decided to shift the idol from somewhere in South India. However, the cart-wheels got stuck in the mud in Nathwada. The accompanying Brahmins considered this as God’s own will to stay here. So, in 1672 Maharana Raj Singh of Mewar took the responsibility of constructing the temple in Nathwada.

Architecture

Srinath ji Temple Nathwada looks like an impressive house rather than a temple. Illustrious pictures of Shrinathji’s exploits and legends fill the walls of the temple. The idol is hewed out of a rare black marble slab. Embroidered clothes and precious jewels like diamonds impart the Srinath ji idol a grand and remarkable look.

The temple consists of countless rooms for different purposes- Doodhghar, Paanghar, Mishrighar, Pedaghar, Phoolghar, Rasoighar- to name a few. Additionally, the only emblem of a temple is the Shikhara with the Kalasha on top of the temple. Moreover, seven flags on the Shikara with a Sudarshan Chakra symbolize the seven dynasties of Pushtimarg clan. Furthermore, shrines of Madan Mohan and Naveet Priya are also there inside the temple premises.

In conclusion, this temple away from the hustle and bustle of Udaipur city deserves a place in your UDAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE.
