Inside the Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel, you’ll find a museum called the Crystal Gallery. This museum has the most extensive private collection of crystals in the world. The Crystal Gallery is one of the best places to visit in Udaipur.

This Palace is also part of the complex that houses the grand Udaipur City Palace. Maharana Sajjan Singh built it in 1877, spreading out over the second-floor hallway in the main hall called 'Durbar Sabhaghar. The gallery is worth visiting during the Udaipur tour package.

History and Significance of the Crystal Gallery

People say that in 1877, Maharana Sajjan Singh bought all of the gems from the F&C Osler Company in Birmingham.

Unfortunately, Sajjan Singh had already died before the crystals arrived because the package wasn’t delivered on time. As a result, they stayed boxed up for 110 years. In 1994, the Crystal Gallery opened to the public. Some sources also suggest that they deliberately kept it secret from most people due to its beauty and glamour.

The royal family of Mewar had the crystal collection wholly customized to their tastes. Indeed, each collection piece carefully captures the Mewar Kingdom's essence. Consequently, the gallery creates a vibe that instantly transports you to a magical royal country.

What to Expect Inside the Crystal Gallery?

The crystal items came from different places around the world. There are some dining tables, mirrored tabletops, lamps, footstools, crockery sets, washing bowls, sofa sets, and crystal beds.

Waterfalls, dresses, paperweights, perfume bottles, and so on have been added. One fascinating feature of the studio is the carpet woven with gold and silver threads and a total of crystals that shine beautifully in a room. Over 600 things are one-of-a-kind, and most of them are the only ones of their kind in the world. People claim that these items have never been used.

Is photography permitted inside the Gallery?

You can look around the lovely gallery; there's nothing else to do. If you listen to an English, French, German, or Spanish audio guide, you can take an exciting trip to the Mewar Kingdom and learn about its past. Unfortunately, you can't take pictures inside the gallery. This is done to prevent the copying of the crystal artefacts.
