Jagdish Mandir is One of the most popular tourist spot in Udaipur. Maharana Jagat Singh, the then ruler of Udaipur, built the temple in 1651. Jagdish Temple is the abode of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is a Hindu deity. Hindus consider Lord Vishnu to be the protector of the world.
Jagdish Temple Architecture
The main temple is 79 feet high. The top of the main temple is embellished with horsemen sculptures, elephants, musicians, and dancers. In addition to these, at the entrance, two massive pachyderm statues greet you. Furthermore, one can see an inscription documenting Maharana Jagat Singh's contribution to the temple at the gate itself. The temple is a prime example of Maru-Gurjara architectural style. This architectural form emerged from Rajasthan during the 11th to 13th centuries. This type of temple can be seen in many other Hindu temples as well as Jain temples in this area.
What to see
The most fascinating item of the temple is the Vishnu idol. But it is not significant just because of its religious value, but also of its aesthetic beauty. What's more, the master sculptors chiselled the Idol out of a single black stone. It is beautifully decorated with jewellery. There are other shrines too encompassing the main Shrine. They are of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Shakti.
However, Garuda's half-man half-eagle statue is why you should include this in your UDAIPUR TOUR PACKAGE. Garuda, as per the Hindu Mythology guards the house of Lord Vishnu. The Garuda idol is made of brass. It is a sight to behold when it glitters like gold in the morning.
During Rath Yatra Lord Jagdish is taken around the whole the city in a Silver Chariot. Many devotees gather here on the eve of Rath Yatra to pull the Chariot.
